Shipley, Herrmann, Novak earn UMAC weekly honors

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Three Minnesota Morris student-athletes earned Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) weekly accolades for their performances on their respective fields/courts of competition last week.

For the second time this season, punter Drew Shipley gained UMAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors. In the team's Homecoming win over Crown, the sophomore averaged 47.2 yards over five punts, which included a career-long 71-yarder. He currently leads all UMAC punters in average (38.6 yards/punt).

For the fourth time in five weeks, Layne Herrmann earned UMAC Volleyball Setter of the Week recognition. Over four matches, the sophomore tallied 159 assists (11.4/set) as the Cougars went a perfect 4-0 last week. Her 768 assists this season leads the conference by over 250 assists and is among the tops in the nation.

For the first time this season, Katherine Novak received UMAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors. She helped guide the Cougars to their first team win since the 2014 UMAC championships by taking the BLC Invite in Mankato Friday. Her time of 25:01.7 over the six-kilometer course was good for second place overall and was just three tenths of a second behind the first place runner.
