ST. PAUL, Minn. - A quartet of Minnesota Morris athletes were named Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Players of the Week in their respective sports.
The volleyball team had a perfect 4-0 weekend trip to Boston to play in the New England Invitational and two players earned the weekly honor,
Morgan Miller and
Layne Herrmann.
This is Miller's first time achieving UMAC Offensive Player of the Week. The sophomore is leading all UMAC players in both hitting percentage (.331) and total blocks (42). She collected 67 kills over five matches last week and had 19 in the team's five-set win over Bowdoin.
Herrmann earns Setter of the Week for the second straight week. She tallied 220 assists (10.0/set) in the Cougars 4-1 week. 55 of those assists game in the team's road win over No. 23 Tufts University. She's producing all over the court as she added 56 digs and 24 kills during the week.
Molly Hancuh is the UMAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week after a productive scoring week where the Cougars won two of three contests. In the team's 9-0 win at Rockford, the senior tallied three goals and two assists and in the team's overtime win over Wisconsin Lutheran she collected two more goals and assisted on another.
Cody Christ earns the UMAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award. He recorded two shutouts over the weekend in wins over Buena Vista and Concordia-Moorhead. His 1.00 goals against average ranks second among all UMAC goalkeepers.
