MORRIS, Minn. – Minnesota Morris head volleyball coach
Lauren Torvi has resigned to accept the head coaching position at South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City.
Torvi led the Cougars to one of the best seasons in program history in 2017. Their .765 winning percentage was a program high and their 26 wins were second most in team history. The Cougars finished second in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) and reached the conference championship match in both of Torvi's seasons at the helm.
"I thank Coach Torvi for her work and dedication to the Minnesota Morris volleyball program and UMM community over the past two years," said director of athletics
Jason Herbers. "The Cougars have a strong tradition of success and Torvi added to it. We wish Torvi and her family all the best on their next adventure."
Torvi coached six All-UMAC athletes, including four First Team All-UMAC honorees. Those athletes included two American Volleyball Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-Americans (
Marissa Ekness,
Katie Reitsma), one two-time UMAC Defensive Player of the Year (Reitsma), and two UMAC Rookies of the Year (
Layne Herrmann,
Mia Frick).
