Basketball Set to Host North Central

Have We Met Before
Just five games into the young season, the Cougars are already faced with their first rematch of the 2010-11 year. Minnesota, Morris hosts North Central on Dec. 2 on Jim Gremmels Court, after the Cougars already met the Rams in the season opener on Nov. 16. The second time around is set for a 5:30 p.m. top-off for the women, with the men following immediately after at 7:30 p.m.

The Records
The Cougar women enter at 2-3, with a 1-1 record at home, while the Ram women are 0-4, with a 0-3 mark on the road. The Cougar men also sit at 2-3 on the season, while holding a 0-1 mark with just one home game. The Ram men are 0-5 on the season, and like the women have a 0-3 mark on the road. 

The Streaks
The Cougar women have currently lost three in a row, after opening the season 2-0, while the Rams have lost all four of their contests this season. The UMM men have also lost their last three, while the North Central men are mired in a five-game losing streak.

Last Season
These two teams met twice each for the men and the women last year, with the Cougars taking all four contests. The Cougar women first posted a 91-65 win at home over the Rams on Jan. 19, before adding an 86-47 win on the road on Feb. 16. In their two meetings last season, the Cougar men also swept, winning 97-69 at home on Jan. 19, and 91-66 on the road on Feb. 16.

Last Time Out
Earlier this week the Cougars traveled to Mayville State, returning to action after a week off. It proved to be a rough night for the maroon and gold as both the men and women suffered defeat. The women dropped a 78-68 decision to the Comets, with the men falling in overtime 88-82

About North Central:
Women
Led by second-year head coach Matt Callahan … currently 0-4 on the season, and have not played since Nov. 23 … opened season with 84-65 loss at home to Minnesota, Morris … have played three games against UMAC teams … have lost three games by double-digits, with the only exception a nine-point loss to St. Scholastica in their latest contest … led in scoring by Elisabeth Trickey at 14.3 ppg … Jorie Grenell (10.5) and Shoshana Womeldorf (10.5) are also averaging double figure scoring … Charity Bowers is the leader on the boards at 6.0 rpg … have been outscored on average by nearly 21 points per game.

Men
Led by third-year head coach John High … currently 0-5 on the season with their latest setback a 77-73 loss to Northland on Dec. 1 … opened the season with a 94-80 loss to the Cougars on Nov. 16 … have played four UMAC opponents … three of five losses have been by six points or less …  led in scoring by Nathan Roeder at 19.5 ppg … Andrew Berndt at 14.0 ppg is second in scoring … Berndy and Roeder are each threats from the outside, hitting 50% and 48% respectively from behind the arc … Levi Kooistra leads in rebounding at 7.5 rpg … have been outscored by an average of 12.0 ppg … have been outscored by 7.8 points in the first half.
