St. Joseph, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris women's basketball team got down early and never recovered on Nov. 18, falling 78-43 to host St. Benedict in the MIAC-UMAC Challenge.

Morris (1-1) shot just 25% from the field while St. Ben's (1-0) countered with a 48% mark, including a 44% clip from behind the arc as they cruised to the win. In the second half, the Blazers outscored the Cougars 41-18, including an 8-to-0 run to open the half and an 11-to-0 run through the middle of the period.

In addition to their struggles from the field, the Cougars finished just 3-of-20 from three-point range and 10-of-19 from the free throw line. Morris had trouble just getting to the line in the first half, with only two attempts before the break.

The Cougars were led by Emily Mehr who finished with 13 points, hitting double figures for the second straight night. She also pulled down a team high seven rebounds, leading the Cougars to 30 boards on the night.

After 25 points in her debut on Tuesday, freshman Kendra Wykoff backed it up with 11 against the Blazers, hitting two of the Cougars three three-pointers along the way.

The MIAC had the upper hand on the night, as St. Catherine's also scored a 69-63 win over St. Scholastica in the night's other game.

The Cougars will continue action at the MIAC-UMAC Challenge on Nov. 19, taking on St. Kate's at 1:00 p.m.
