The Minnesota Morris men's and women's basketball teams get back in action tonight (Nov. 29), hitting the road to take on Mayville State in non-conference action. The women tip-off first at 5:30 p.m., with the men right after at 7:30 p.m.

The Cougar women enter at 2-2 on the season while the men sit at 1-2. The Comet women are 7-2 early in the year, with the men at 5-6.

The teams each met twice last season with the women splitting. On the road the Comets won 78-68, but in Morris, the Cougar women turned the tables to take an 83-73 victory. The men fell twice last year including 88-82 in overtime on the road. In Morris, the Comets completed the sweep with a 79-71 win.

About the Cougars: One of three teams in the UMAC at 2-2 … coming off biggest loss of the season, 80-60 to Jamestown … answered first loss with an 83-67 win over St. Catherine next time out … averaging 80 points in their two wins, but just 51.5 in their two wins … led in scoring by two players averaging double figures with Emily Mehr at 14.8 and Kendra Wycoff at 13.0 … Mehr also leads in rebounds at 6.0 per game … being outscored 67-to-65 per game through four games .. UMM leads the UMAC in scoring at 65.8 ppg and in shooting percentage at .382 … at 14.8 points per game, Mehr is averaging nearly two better than her career high 12.9 from last season … Mehr ranks fifth in the league in scoring and first in field goal percentage at .500 … Jenni Noordmans leads in steals at 3.5 per game … led by 13.0 from Wykoff, the five new faces on the Cougar women's basketball team have combined to produce over 24 points per game though the first two weeks of the season.

About the Comets: Opened season with six straight wins … went just 1-4 in their last five games, including two straight losses to NCAA Division II teams that are considered exhibition games and do not count towards record … have topped 80 points in all but one win, including 100 points one time … have held their opponents to under 62 points in all but one win … led in scoring by Hailey Longtin at 16.6 points per game, with Erin Ericson second at 13.0 … outscoring opponents 80.3 to 64.6 points per game … have been out rebounded by an average of 39.0 to 35.0 per game … hitting 37% of three pointers as a team … Longtin leads the team with 27 threes made … went 4-20 in 2010-11, with three of those wins coming at home.

About the Cougars: Coming off back-to-back losses after a win in the season opener … scored 87 points in one win, but just 44 and 64 in two losses … Derek Schmidt and Zach Meyer each lead in scoring with 11.0 and 10.7 respectively … Kyle Bruns and Tom Barrett each lead on the boards with 5.0 rebounds per game … team is 16-of-40 from long range, led by Brodie Raymond with six … being outscored 75.0 to 65.0 per game … second highest scoring team in the UMAC at 65.0 points per game, while leading in field goal percentage at .461 and three-point percentage at .400 … holding opponents to a league low 34.7 rebounds per game … used balanced scoring through their first three games, as four different players have already scored in double figures, with six players averaging six points per game or more … at 16-of-40 from three point range, Cougars are well ahead after sitting just 11-of-27 at the same point last season.

About the Comets: Opened season with four straight wins, scoring over 82 points in each game … has one just once in last seven games since, including two straight losses to NCAA Division II Teams in exhibition games that do not count on overall record … topped 80 points in each win, while allowing no more than 64 … outscoring opponents 78.3 to 69.0 points per game … led in scoring by Gus Kueber at 16.6 points per game, with Eric Shulstad second at 14.4 … Shulstad is shooting 46% from three-point range, with 19 made threes … currently 5-1 at home … went 8-20 last season with six wins at home.
