The Minnesota Morris men's and women's basketball teams return home tonight (Dec. 9), hosting Mayville State. As usual, the women tip-off first on Jim Gremmels Court at 5:30 p.m., with the men following right after at 7:30 p.m.

This is the first time at home for the Cougars since Nov. 22 when they hosted Jamestown, and will be a rematch against Mayville State from the first meeting on Nov. 29. In the match-up in Mayville, the Comets swept the night with the women taking an 88-76 win and the men holding on for a 72-71 victory.

The Records: The Cougar women enter at 2-4 on the year, and face a Comet team that sits at 8-4. The Cougar men are currently 1-4 and are tasked with a 7-6 Comet squad.

WOMEN – 5:30 P.M.
Storyline: A pair of reeling teams enter with the Comets having lost four of their last six, and the Cougars falling in four of their past five. The Cougars are looking to avoid losing four straight for the first time since December 2009.  Morris' last two losses have come despite two of their best shooting nights of the year. The Cougars will need to avoid getting into a big first half hole, as strong second halves could not overcome a six-point deficit against Valley City State, or a nine-point hole at Mayville State.

About the Comets | Stats: Losers of two straight, including a 94-87 loss to UMAC opponent Martin Luther … most recent win came over UMM … opened season with six straight wins, but have went just 2-4 since … have yet to win a road game, sitting at 0-2, and are 0-3 in all games away from Mayville … went just 4-20 last season … three players averaging double figures led by Hailey Longtin at 16.6 points per game … Longtin scored 16 in the first meeting with Morris … as a team, outscoring their opponents by over 14 points per game.

About the Cougars | Stats: Looking to break out of a three-game losing streak, their longest in over a year … were within two with five minutes left, before eventually falling to Valley City State last time out … Emily Mehr leads the scoring at 15.5 points per game, and has hit double figures in all but one game … Mehr scored 18 in the first meeting with Mayville State … Cougars went 2-5 against NAIA teams last season, but are in search of their first win this season … four different players have led UMM in scoring in their six games, including a season high 17 from Jenni Noordmans on Wednesday … in the loss to Valley City State, Morris had their second best shooting night of the season.

MEN – 7:30 P.M.
Storyline: The Cougar men need to solve the Comet's jinx, as Mayville State has snuck by the Cougars in three straight close games. Morris lost in overtime in Mayville last season, and held the lead midway through the second half before falling in Morris. This season, they outscored the Comets by 19 in the second half, but couldn't quite erase a 20-point halftime hole.

About the Comets | Stats: Losers of two straight, after three straight wins … has been a season of streaks with four straight wins to open the season, followed by four straight losses … all seven wins have come at home, with the Comets 0-3 in road games and 0-5 in all games away from Mayville … averaging just 59 points per game away from home, while allowing 76 … Gus Kubler is the scoring leader at 18.0 points per game, and one of two in double figures … only four players average better than 7.0 points per game … went just 8-20 last season, winning just twice on the road.
