Women’s Basketball Wins 66-44 Over Saints in UMAC Opener

Kendra Wycoff led the Cougars in scoring for the third straight game
Box Score Aberdeen, S.D. – For the Minnesota Morris women's basketball team, the 2011-12 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) season opened much the same way that last season ended, with a win. Tonight (Jan. 10) the Cougars took an early lead and never looked back in a 66-44 road win over Presentation.

It wasn't their best night, as the Cougars (4-6, 1-0 UMAC) shot 36% from the floor, but they made up for it with a defense that held the Saints (0-9, 0-1 UMAC) under 30% from the floor while also forcing them into 21 turnovers.

The win is the 28th straight for the Cougars in UMAC play, and they have not lost a conference game since the opener in 2009-10.

Kendra Wycoff led the way with 16 points, the second best night of her young career, and the third straight time she has led the Cougars in scoring. Jenni Noordmans was the only other player in double figures with 13 points, but the Cougars had six players with at least six points.

Abby Fragodt paced the Cougars to a season high 50 rebounds with her career best 12, including seven on the offensive end, as Morris racked up 22 offensive boards on the night. The Cougars used their second chances to produce 20 points, while also getting 21 points off Saint turnovers.

With the first one under their belt, the Cougars will stay on the road this weekend for games with Northwestern and Crown on Jan. 13 and 14 respectively. The Northwestern game will be a rematch of the 2011 UMAC Tournament championship game, where the Cougars won 82-74.
