Cougar Women Cruise Past Crown, 70-47

Box Score St. Bonifacious, Minn. – In wrapping up the first week of Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play, the Minnesota Morris women's basketball team secured a 70-47 road win over Crown College tonight (Jan. 14).

The Cougars (6-6, 3-0 UMAC) took a 31-13 lead into halftime, before taking their foot off the gas in the second to ride out the win.  They held the Storm (1-9, 0-3 UMAC) to just five field goals in the first 20 minutes, as the hosts shot a mere 20% (5-of-25) from the floor.

Morris got balanced scoring on the night, led by 18 from Emily Mehr, with Allie Sannes and Alyssa Silva adding 11 and 10 points respectively. For Sannes, tonight marked just the second game scoring in double figures for her on the season, with the first on Dec. 9.

In all 10 different players scored for the Cougars, including strong production from the bench which produced 27 points, compared to just five for the Storm.

The win keeps the Cougars unbeaten in league play and tied atop the UMAC standings with Martin Luther, as each team boasts 3-0 conference records. It is also the 28th straight in conference play for the Cougars, and sends them home on a three-game winning streak for their pair of games next weekend.

After hosting Bethany Lutheran on Jan. 20, there will be a potential showdown between Morris and Martin Luther on Jan. 21 with first place on the line.

Tip off on Friday is at 5:30 p.m. on Jim Gremmels Court, while on Saturday the game sips off at 3:00 p.m.
