After splitting a pair of games in their last home stand, the Minnesota Morris Men's basketball team will head north to take on Northland and St. Scholastica. The Cougars will take on the Lumberjacks Friday (Jan. 27) night at 7:30 p.m. and the Saints on Saturday (Jan.  28) afternoon at 5:00 p.m.

The Cougars are coming off a win against Trinity Bible College in non-conference play (74-62) and also split games with Martin Luther (79-59) and Bethany Lutheran (75-79 OT) last weekend.

Last season the Cougars were able to take down the Lumberjacks both times including an 89-51 win coming at home and an 88-74 win in Ashland, Wis.

Last year against St. Scholastica, Morris played two of their closest games all season long. However, the Cougars were able to defeat the Saints 73-68 and 76-73 in both of their meetings.

About the Cougars: Tied for third place with Northwestern at 3-2 … coming off two straight wins including a 79-59 win over Martin Luther … in conference play Morris ranks fourth in scoring offense (72.0 ppg), fourth in scoring defense (66.6 ppg), third in field goal percentage (.475), and second in defensive rebounds (26.8) … Derek Schmidt is eighth in points per game in the UMAC with 13.8 … first in field goal percentage at .643 … Schmidt has scored in double figures in every game this season except one … his 18 points against Trinity Bible tied his season high, which has been accomplished three times this year … Brendon Foss is 14th  in points per game in the UMAC with 11.4 … third in total rebounds with 8.4 per game … second in blocked shots with six … Kyle Bruns is ninth in free throw percentage in the UMAC at .769.

About the LumberJacks: Seventh in the UMAC at 1-4 … recently fell to Crown 70-77 … in conference play Northland leads the league in free throw percentage (.788) & field goal percentage (.489) … second in blocked shots with 3.4 … tied for third in assists (14.2) … Adrian Flores is tied for fourth in the UMAC in points per game (17.8), second in rebounding (8.4) and second in field goal percentage (.627) … Micheal Mackey is sixth in points per game (16.6), ninth in field goal percentage (.493) and first in assists (25) … Sean Augustyn is first in blocked shots (10).

About the Saints: Second in the UMAC at 4-1 … have won six out of the past seven games, including a 71-51 win over Northwestern … lead the conference in scoring (75.6), third in scoring defense (63.8), second in field goal percentage (.476), first in blocked shots (19), second in assists (75) and third in three-pointers made (37) … Brett Tester is second in the UMAC in points per game (21.2) and fourth in rebounds per game (7.2) … Chris Hamers is fourth in the UMAC in points per game (15.6), and third in three-pointers made (3.4) … Derek Steve and Jonah Dahlman both are tied for fourth in the UMAC in assists per game (4.0) … Steve is in fifth in steals per game (2.2).
