UMAC Tournament Championship: The Minnesota Morris and Martin Luther women's basketball teams will square off for the 2012 UMAC Tournament Championship. The two best teams in the league throughout the season, and the two that tied for the regular season championship with identical 12-2 records also split during the season with each winning on the road. The defending tournament champion Cougars, must do so again, going on the road in attempts to win their second straight postseason championship, tipping off in New Ulm, Minn. at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25.
How Did We Get Here: The Cougars beat St. Scholastica 71-63 in the semifinals, putting the clamps on a late Saint rally to hold on to the win and advance to their second straight UMAC Championship game. Martin Luther scored a 69-60 semifinal win over Bethany Lutheran, going on a late run to extend their lead and lock up the win.
For the Record: Each team went 12-2 in UMAC play, with the Cougars entering the game with an 18-8 record, riding a nine-game winning streak. Martin Luther, meanwhile, rebounded from a late season loss to win four straight, and enters the game 19-7 on the season.
About the Cougars: UMAC title was third straight … have lost two conference games or less in each of the last three seasons … led in scoring by
