UMAC Tournament Championship: The Minnesota Morris and Martin Luther women's basketball teams will square off for the 2012 UMAC Tournament Championship. The two best teams in the league throughout the season, and the two that tied for the regular season championship with identical 12-2 records also split during the season with each winning on the road. The defending tournament champion Cougars, must do so again, going on the road in attempts to win their second straight postseason championship, tipping off in New Ulm, Minn. at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25.

How Did We Get Here: The Cougars beat St. Scholastica 71-63 in the semifinals, putting the clamps on a late Saint rally to hold on to the win and advance to their second straight UMAC Championship game. Martin Luther scored a 69-60 semifinal win over Bethany Lutheran, going on a late run to extend their lead and lock up the win.

For the Record: Each team went 12-2 in UMAC play, with the Cougars entering the game with an 18-8 record, riding a nine-game winning streak. Martin Luther, meanwhile, rebounded from a late season loss to win four straight, and enters the game 19-7 on the season.

About the Cougars: UMAC title was third straight … have lost two conference games or less in each of the last three seasons … led in scoring by Emily Mehr at 18.3 points per game, who scores even better in conference play at 20.4 ppg to rank second in the league … a three-time UMAC Player of the Week this season, Mehr has scored in over 20 points 10 times, including over 30 twice … Abby Fragodt is third in the UMAC in rebounds at 9.1 per game, and has hit double figures nine times … Alyssa Silva leads the UMAC in free throw percentage at .921 in conference games, while Emily Mehr (.826) and Jenni Noordmans (.824) also rank in the top-five … Kelsey Erickson leads the UMAC in assist/turnover ratio at 2.1, while ranking second in assists at 4.6 … outscoring opponents by over 10 points per game … have scored over 80 points eight times, topping 90 twice … 72.3 points per game rank 23rd in NCAA … 42.6% shooting mark from the field is 33rd nationally … have missed three or fewer free throws in six different games … 11-2 when shooting 70% or better at the free throw line.

About the Knights: UMAC title was first in program history … 19 wins are a program record … went 11-4 at home, with lone home loss to UMM … 69.6 points per game ranks 49th nationally … 73.2% mark from the free throw line is 47th in the NCAA … went perfect through the first half of the conference season, starting UMAC play 8-0 … Erica Babinec leads in scoring at 15.9 points per game, while ranking fifth in UMAC play at 16.5 … Babinec also ranks third in steals (2.5) and fifth in assists (3.4) … Amanda Burk leads the UMAC in field goal percentage at 56.2% in league games … Sarah Free is second in the league in three-point percentage at 45.5% … Burk (13.2) and Alex Anthon (10.0) also average double figure scoring … won nine straight games at one-point, before losing to UMM in early February … have scored over 80 points seven times, topping 90 twice … undefeated when scoring at least 70 points.
