Box Score ASHLAND, Wis. – Kendra Wycoff's game high 23 points on kept Minnesota Morris (5-7, 3-0) perfect in the UMAC as they beat Northland (3-7, 2-1 UMAC) 59-41 on Saturday. Just three games into the conference season just Morris and Northwestern remain unbeaten.
Emily Mehr added 17 points and Kayla Kramer had 10 points as the Cougars had just ten turnovers in the win.
Morris held the LumberJills to just 18.5% shooting in the first half, helping UMM jump out to a 32-20 lead at halftime. The Cougars hit six three pointers in the opening twenty minutes, Wycoff was 4-7 from behind the arc in the first half.
The Cougars jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead and held a 16-7 lead with just under 14 minutes left in the half. Northland did go away quietly as they responded with a 6-0 run. With nine minutes remaining in the half the Cougars led 24-13 after Kramer hit a three pointer. The Jills never got closer than nine after that as the Cougars went into the break with a 32-20 lead.
The second half started a lot like the first as the Cougars went on a run.
Abby Fragodt hit a free throw to spark the 13-2 run giving UMM the 45-22 lead. Mehr hit a jumper with just over 9:30 left giving the Cougars their largest lead of the game at 54-24. In the end it was a 22-4 run for the Cougars in the opening 10:30 of the second half. Northland never got closer than 17 as Morris picked up the 59-41 win.
Minnesota Morris is back at home next weekend as they host Northwestern in a battle of the UMAC unbeaten's on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
