Box Score MORRIS, Minn. – The Cougars (6-7, 4-0 UMAC) took sole possession of first place in the UMAC on Friday night with a 76-48 win over Northwestern (8-7, 3-1 UMAC).
Emily Mehr had a season high 33 points on the night to lead all scorers.
Kendra Wycoff added 17 and Kayla Kramer had 11.
The Cougars shot 47.5% from the field in the game including 53.1% in the first half. Morris outscored the Eagles 17-14 in the paint and caused 27 turnovers which lead to 28 points for the home team.
It was tight in the opening three minutes of action but then the Cougars took control and sailed through the first half. Leading 9-5 the Morris went on a 25-5 run over the next 13 minutes of play to take a 36-10 lead. The lead got as large as 28 in the first half as the Cougars took a 45-17 lead into the break. In the first half Mehr had 18 points on 8-9 shooting, including 2-3 from beyond the three point line. Wycoff was 4-6 in the first half from three point range on the way to 14 first half points. The defense held the Eagles to just 30.4% shooting in the first half and including just 1-6 from behind the arc.
The lead got as large as 31 in the second half as Mehr hit a three pointer on the Cougars first possession. Northwestern was unable to get any closer than 22 as the Cougars cruised to the 76-48 win.
Minnesota Morris will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they host the North Central Rams at 3:00 p.m.
