Morris Looks to Clinch UMAC Tournament Spot

MORRIS, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris Cougars (11-7, 8-0 UMAC) head out for their final road trip of the regular season on Friday as they get ready to face North Central (4-13, 1-7 UMAC) and Northwestern (12-7, 7-1 UMAC) in consecutive days. A pair of wins this weekend would clinch a playoff spot in the UMAC Tournament.

The Cougars are riding a nine game winning streak and sit alone in first place in the conference. Offensively the Cougars rank eighth in the region in points per game scoring 69 per game. Mehr is averaging 20.5 points per game and Wycoff is scoring 14.3. Mehr had not played in the enough games to be included in the national rankings but her 20.5 points per game is just five points short of the national leader and just outside the top ten in the nation. Abby Fragodt is 25th in the nation averaging 10.8 rebounds per game. Fragodt has 10+ rebounds in eight games this season. These rankings include games played before January 27th.

Earlier this season Morris picked up a 75-59 win over North Central and a 76-48 win over Northwestern. The defense played a big role in both wins and will need to be just as large this weekend. Additionally the offense shot above 47% in both games as the Cougars pulled away in both games.

With just six games left on the UMAC schedule the Cougars are peaking at the right time and look to continue their success this weekend and going forward.
