Box Score MORRIS, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris Cougars (2-3) picked up a decisive victory on Friday night beating Presentation College 65-54.
Kendra Wycoff and
Emily Auch led the offense on the night. Wycoff finished with a season high 23 points and Auch had a season high 21, two shy of her career high.
Maja Coomes hit an early three pointer to give Minnesota Morris the 7-2 lead just three minutes into the contest.
Tori Holt hit a turnaround hook shook to push the lead to ten just before the 15 minute mark. In the first eight minutes of the game UMM held Presentation to just 1-8 shooting and forced five turnovers. Morris also got the Saints into foul trouble and reached the bonus before the 11 minute mark. A pair of fast break baskets gave UMM the 197 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining as the Cougars maintained their hot shooting early in the game.
The first half lead would get as large as 18 at 34-16 with just under five minutes to play. The Saints cut the lead to 11 with a three pointer two minutes before the break but the Cougars maintained a double digit lead. The Cougars went into the break leading 36-23
It was a slow start the second half for both teams Saints could not take advantage of the Cougars errors, making errors of their own. Despite the slow start Minnesota Morris still held a double digit lead, 44-30 with 13 minutes left. Morris extended the lead to 20 at 53-33 with eight minutes left in the game. Presentation cut the lead to nine but ran out of time in attempting the comeback. The Cougars held on for the 65-54 win.
Minnesota Morris will be back in action on Sunday as they travel to take on Wartburg in Waverly, Iowa. They stay on the road on Monday, taking on Wisconsin Eau-Clarie at 7 p.m.
