Team Effort Fuels Victory

Box Score ABERDEEN, S.D. – Minnesota Morris (3-8) got a big victory Tuesday night, 73-60 over Presentation (3-12) in their final tune up game before conference play begins this weekend. Kendra Wycoff had 17 points, her second highest mark of the season in the win. The Cougars shot 41.8% from the field in the win, their second highest percentage this season.
 
Morris got off to a quick start with a 9-2 run to open the game. The Saints settled into the game and responded with an 8-0 run to grab a one point lead with 14 minutes left in the first half. The Cougars took the lead back soon after and gained some separation on a four point run from Emily Auch, giving UMM a 16-13 lead midway through the first half. Auch and Wycoff combined for 11 points during a 13-0 run giving Morris a 25-13 lead with under eight minutes to go. The lead hovered around double digits for the rest of the first half and the Cougars went into the locker room with a 36-23 lead.
 
The Cougars shot 44.1% in the first half, building up the lead. Defense was central for UMM in the first half, holding the Saints to just 9-36 shooting from the field. Morris outscored Presentation 13-4 in points off turnovers in the opening twenty minutes. Second chance points were also important in the half, UMM held an 8-2 advantage in that category.
 
Presentation opened the second half with an 8-0 run cutting the UMM lead to just five points at 36-31. After the Cougars extended the lead back to nine, the Saints continued to surge and cut the lead to one possession at 40-37 with just over 13 minutes left in the game. Maja Coomes hit a three to push the lead back to six and started a run that gave UMM a 51-41 lead with 8:30 left. The lead for the Cougars got as large as 11 with just over five minutes to play, Presentation tried to make a late run, cutting the lead to six but could get no closer and the Cougars converted free throws late to pick up the win.
 
Auch finished the game with 14 points and eight rebounds. Abby Fragodt had eight points and seven rebounds. Tori Holt had her first career double-double coming off the bench for 11 points and 12 rebounds. The 11 points matcher her season high and the 12 rebounds were a season high. The Cougars got 22 points from their bench on the night. Seven Cougars finished with at least six points on the night.
 
Minnesota Morris will head to Crown on Saturday to open up UMAC play at 3 p.m.
