MORRIS, Minn. – The Carleton Knights (3-3) held Minnesota Morris (1-7) to just 30% shooting on the night while blocking eight shots to beat the Cougars 83-50. The loss extends UMM's losing streak to six on the young season. The Cougars still have three more games before they open up conference play just over a month from today.
Minnesota Morris was hot in the opening minutes of action hitting four of their first five shots from the field while building up an 11-4 lead. They hit three straight three pointers during the 11 point spree. Unfortunately, the Cougars would shoot just 4-23 and 0-5 from behind the arc the rest of the half.
The Cougars clung to a 17-13 lead with 13:30 left in the half but the Knights would go on a 20-0 run and take a commanding 33-17 lead with just over five minutes to play in the half. The Cougars got no closer than 15 the rest of the way and trailed 38-22 at the break.
Carleton continued their hot shooting in the second half as they quickly pushed their lead to 26 just five minutes after the break. Morris would get no closer than 21 as the Knights pulled away late to win by 33. Carleton shot 31-51 in the game and outscored UMM 38-16 in the paint.
Offensively,
Cody Emrick and
CD Douglas tied for the team lead with nine points in the game. Morris held a 14-11 advantage in offensive rebounds but could only manage seven second chance points.
Morris is back at home on Friday as they look to avenge an earlier loss to Mayville State. The game will tip off at 7:30 p.m. in the P.E. Center. It will be the second annual ugly sweater night as it will be the final home game before semester break.
