UMM Looks to Continue Winning Ways

MORRIS, Minn. – The Cougars (3-9, 1-0 UMAC) have won two straight games and look to extend that this weekend as they travel to take on Bethany Lutheran and Martin Luther. Head Coach Paul Grove has 98 conference wins heading into this weekend, giving him a shot to reach 100 on Saturday.
 
Minnesota Morris ranks in the top 100 in scoring offense in the nation, averaging over 72 points per game. The team ranks in the top 30 in turnovers per game and fouls per game.
 
As a team the Cougars are shooting nearly 45% from the field through 12 games. RJ Dean and CD Douglas are averaging 12 points per game. Neil Helgeson is averaging 9.3 points per game. John Haseman is the leading scorer off the bench, averaging 8.5 points per game.
 
Bethany Lutheran (1-11, 1-0 UMAC) started the season by losing their first 11 games of the year but earned a 66-61 win over Martin Luther last Saturday afternoon. The Vikings have been outscored by an average of 24.9 points per game on the year. They have been out rebounded by their opponent by an average of 8.4 per game.
 
Offensively BLC has been scoring by committee through their first 12 games of the year. They have seven players averaging at least five points per game, led by Nick Sanborn who scores 9.3 points per game.
 
Martin Luther (1-10, 0-1 UMAC) has lost three straight since beating Luther in mid-December. Last week they lost 66-61 to Bethany Lutheran in overtime. Much like Bethany Lutheran, the Knights have been outscored by an average of over 20 points per game. The team is shooting under 30% from behind the arc and just 59.9% from the foul line. Their defense can force turnovers; they are averaging 8.7 steals per game this year.
 
The Knights have a scoring tandem that is responsible for over 50% of their points per game. Todd Brassow leads the team with 16.7 points per game and shooting over 44% from the field. Luke Rothe is averaging 14.9 points per game this year and leads the team in made free throws and three pointers made.
