MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (4-9, 2-0 UMAC) picked up their first UMAC road win of the year with a 73-57 win over the Bethany Lutheran Vikings (1-12, 0-2 UMAC).
Kendra Wycoff tied her season high with 25 points. Morris shot 8-19 from behind the arc in the game.
Bethany took an early lead on UMM, jumping out 16-7 at the halfway point of the first half. The Cougars hit just three shots in the first ten min 11 minutes but four free throws and tough defense kept them in the game.
Emily Auch converted a layup with 8:06 left in the first to tie the game and Wycoff gave the Cougars the second lead of the game at 20-18 about 90 seconds later.
Morris used a 9-0 run late in the first half to take a31-24 lead. They would go into the break, up 31-26. Wycoff led the way with 11 and Auch added eight. Morris held Bethany without a made three pointer in the first half while the Cougars hit four of their own.
The Cougars pushed their lead to 14 thanks to a 9-0 run to open up the second half. Morris stayed in control of the game against Bethany as their lead grew slightly to 18 by the midway point of the second half. Bethany was unable to recover and the Cougars improved to 2-0 in conference place with a win.
Auch finished the day with 14 points and five rebounds.
Jessica Love added 12 points. The UMM defense held Bethany to 35.2% shooting and just 3-15 from behind the arc. They also forced 28 turnovers which resulted in 26 points for the Cougars.
Tim Grove now has 98 UMAC wins in his career as he tries to keep pace with his brother Paul, who won his 99
th UMAC game on Friday.
