MORRIS, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (3-2, 1-0 UMAC) will head on the road for the first time in UMAC play this weekend. UMM will take on North Central (1-5, 0-1 UMAC) and Northwestern (5-2, 1-0 UMAC) with hopes of leaving the cities with a 3-0 record before the mid-semester conference break.
Morris will play North Central on Friday to try and improve to 2-0 in UMAC play. This season the Cougars have five players averaging at least eight points per game, with three of them being freshmen.
On Saturday the Cougars will battle UMAC rival Northwestern for the first time this season. The game is featured as the UMAC Game of the Week. It is the earliest meeting between the two teams since 2002, when the two teams met on December 14. Northwestern won that game, 88-61; it was the Cougars first game after beating Crown to snap a 49 game losing streak.
Since 2010 the Cougars are 12-3 against Northwestern. Minnesota Morris leads the all-time series 23-18. Last season the Cougars split the regular season series and shared the UMAC Regular Season Title. Morris beat Northwestern 64-54 in overtime to advance to the NCAA Championships.
