Four To Be Honored on Senior Night

MORRIS, Minn. – The women's basketball team is at home this weekend for their final home stand of the season. Minnesota Morris (11-10, 9-1 UMAC) will host Martin Luther (7-13, 6-4 UAMC) and Bethany Lutheran (6-15, 5-5 UMAC) as they look to lock up a home UMAC Tournament game.

Currently, the Cougars sit in a tie for first place with Northwestern with a 9-1 record in conference play. Martin Luther and Bethany Lutheran are battling each other for the final spot in the UAMC Tournament. The Knights are 6-4, one game ahead of the Vikings. The two teams split their regular season series so the Vikings will need to find a way to catch the Knights and hope the tiebreaker falls their way.

The Knights are averaging 58.7 points per game and are shooting 33.8% from the field on the season. Martin Luther is second in the conference in offensive rebounding and first in steals, something the Cougars will need to control this weekend.

Individually, Grace Schultz and Mariah Schoof are averaging over ten points per game this season. Also, Erin Schmeling is close behind, scoring 9.4 points per game. A majority of the scoring for the Knights comes from five players. Their bench is averaging about 13 points per game this year.

Bethany comes into the game shooting the ball at 33.5% clip this season. They are fifth in the league in scoring, averaging 55.0 points per game. The team ranks first in the UMAC in points scored at the foul line meaning the Cougars will need to stay out of foul trouble.

The Vikings also have a scoring tandem that scores over ten points per contest. Angela DeBruzzi leads the team with 12.5 points per game. Briana Brandts averages 10.3 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.

Morris comes into the weekend first in the conference in scoring, averaging 69.9 points per game. They have an offense that essentially features three ten point scorers but also can get scoring from their bench.

This Saturday is senior night; the Cougars will honor Kendra Wycoff, Emily Auch, Jessica Love and Connor Lewis.
