MORRIS, Minn. – The men's basketball team will look to snap a three game streak on Wednesday as the Cougars (11-14) host North Central (12-12) in the UMAC Semifinals. The two teams just met on Saturday with the Rams winning 87-80 in the season finale.
Minnesota Morris and North Central split their season series. The Cougars beat the Rams on Jan. 30, 78-61 in Morris. In the win Morris scored 36 points in the paint and got 22 points from the bench. UMM shot 53.7% from the field in the game. Five players scored in double figures on the night.
The Cougars have five players averaging over eight points per game on the year.
Neil Helgeson leads the way with 12.1 points per game. Nearly half of his made shots have come from behind the arc on the season.
RJ Dean and
CD Douglas are averaging 10.8 points and 10.2 points per game respectively.
John Haseman has been a spark off the bench, averaging 8.9 points per game.
North Central has four scorers who average at least ten points per contest. Luke Chaffin leads the way, averaging a league high 18.1 points per game.
The two teams are very similar when you compare the team stats. The Cougars and Rams are the top scoring teams in the UMAC. North Central is scoring 73.1 points per game and UMM is scoring 71.8 points per game. Both teams are shooting over 45% from the field on the season.
The winner plays the winner of the other semifinal game; St. Scholastica at Northwestern.
