ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – Isaac Sawyer had a career high 17 points, going 4-4 from three as the Cougars (8-11, 6-2 UMAC) beat Crown (2-17, 2-6 UMAC) 101-69 on Tuesday night. Four other Cougars scored in double figures as Morris shot 58.1% from the field. UMM had 21 assists on 36 made shots on Tuesday night.
Minnesota Morris made 12 three pointers on the night, shooting 57.1% from behind the arc. The team hit 7-10 in the first half to build up a 15 point at the break. The Cougars forced 18 turnovers and used them to score 24 points on the evening.
The first eight minutes were competitive as UMM held just a three point lead at 22-19. Morris started to pull away over the next three minutes, thanks to a 13-4 run. Crown never got closer than eight the rest of the half.
Crown began the half on a 9-2 run cutting the Cougars lead back to eight with 18:14 left. Morris would not let the Storm back in the contest, responding with an 11-0 run to build up a 67-48 lead a quarter of the way through the half.
The Storm never got closer than 11 the rest of the way as Morris pulled away late. The Cougars would finish the contest on a 20-7 run to pick up the 101-69 victory. Minnesota Morris got 31 points from the bench in the second half of the contest.
CD Douglas had 16 points and six assists.
Cody Emrick had 12 points off the bench, hitting 4-6 from three.
Neil Helgeson added 11 and
RJ Dean had 10 points to round out the five Cougars in double figures on the evening.
Morris will take on Northland and St. Scholastica this weekend to wrap up their quick three game road trip.
