ST. PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (16-12) had their season come to an end on Friday night, falling 70-31 to #2 St. Thomas (28-0). The Tommies became the first MIAC team to start a season by winning their first 28 games.
Emily Auch led the Cougars with nine points and five rebounds.
The Morris defense kept them in the game early, trailing by four, 6-2 at the first media timeout. After that thought the Tommies went on a 7-2 run extending their lead to 14-4 with just over 13 minutes left in the first half. Auch had the first four points for the Cougars in the game.
Jessica Love hit a three off the bench to cut the lead to seven but UST responded. They would convert a three point play with just over ten minutes to go up 21-11. More importantly with the play the Tommies got
Tori Holt to commit her third foul of the half.
St. Thomas would methodically add to their lead and built it all the way up to 20 at the break, 43-23. UST would finish the half 16-27 from the field for a 59.3%. Morris didn't shoot the ball bad, hitting just under 38% in the first twenty minutes.
The Tommies would put the pedal to the metal in the second half by going on a 23-7 to open up play. Morris would be held to 3-20 shooting in the second half and UST pulled away for a 70-31 win. St. Thomas would force 23 turnovers resulting in 19 points. UST outscored UMM 48-12 in the paint during the game.
