MORRIS, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris basketball teams are on the road for the first time since December 18 when UMM battled Mayville State. The weekend starts with a trip to Bethany Lutheran tonight followed by a trip to Martin Luther on Saturday afternoon. Both the men and women are coming off 2-0 weekends.
MEN Last weekend the Cougars averaged over 96 points in wins over Finlandia and Northland. Morris shot over 60% from the field on the weekend. Against Finlandia five Cougars scored in double figures, led by
Anthony Fisher with 20 points. The following day four Cougars scored in double digits, led by 21 from
Joe Roggenbuck.
NOTES:- Morris (6-7, 3-3 UMAC) shot over 70% from the field in back-to-back halves last week.
- Douglas is averaging 20.1 points per game this season, shooting 59.1% from the field.
- Noah Grove is averaging 13 points per game over his last three games.
- Jeremy Halverson is 14-19 from three in his last five games.
- Three Bethany players are averaging over ten points per game, led by Brandyn Frelix who scored 19.4 points per game.
- The Vikings (5-9, 3-3 UMAC) are shooting 42.2% from the field in conference play.
- Bethany has made 72 more free throws than their opponent in UMAC play.
- Martin Luther (1-12, 1-5 UMAC) is led by Todd Brassow who is scoring 23.3 points per game this season.
- Two other Knights average over 13 points per game.
WOMEN Morris snapped a five game losing streak with two big wins last weekend. The Cougars had 20 point wins over Finlandia and Northland. This weekend is big for the Cougars as they take on two other 3-3 teams in the UMAC, the same record as UMM.
NOTES:- Elli Stevenson had 29 points last weekend.
- Tori Holt had a good night against Finlandia, scoring 18 points.
- Last weekend the Cougars had 66 points in the paint last week.
- Morris (6-7, 3-3 UMAC) is still having trouble with turnovers, something they need to watch this weekend.
- Bethany (6-8, 3-3 UMAC) has won three of their last four, losing to Northwestern last week.
- Haley Sandin leads BLC with 22.0 points per game, doing a lot of damage at the line.
- Two other scorers are averaging over 12 points per game.
- Martin Luther (6-7 3-3 UMAC) is 3-3 in their last six games.
- The Knights allow just 62.5 points per game this season, third in the UMAC.
