NEW ULM, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (8-7, 5-3 UMAC) breezed by Martin Luther (1-14, 1-7 UMAC) thanks to another hot shooting night. Morris outshot the Knights 53.8-37.7% on the night, winning 100-76.
CD Douglas had 31 points, nine assists and nine rebounds, just missing a triple-double.
Martin Luther started fast out of the gate and led 14-5 with after four minutes of play. Morris would slowly cut into the lead over the next three minutes of play, taking a two point lead at the 13:20 mark. MLC would retake the lead but the Cougars put together an 11-0 run, taking a 32-22 lead with just under nine minutes to play.
Over the final 8:30 of the half Morris outscored the Knights 25-10, and took a 57-34 lead into the locker room. In the first half Morris shot over 60% from the field.
CD Douglas scored 24 points on 8-12 shooting to lead all scorers.
The Knights were able to slow down Douglas in the second half but could not cut into the Cougars lead.
Noah Grove scored five of the Cougars first seven points in the second half keeping the distance from MLC. The lead would not dip under 20 points as UMM soared to a 30 point advantage with 9:37 left in the half.
A jumper by
John Haseman gave the Cougars 100 points with 53 seconds left. It was the third 100+ point game for UMM on the year. Grove finished with 20 points on 7-11 shooting, setting a new career high.
John Haseman and
Tyler Ukkelberg each added 11 points.
Joe Roggenbuck led the team with 12 rebounds.
Morris will be off tomorrow before returning to the court Monday against Presentation in a non-conference game.
