MORRIS, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris Cougars (5-7) ended a five game losing streak with a big 80-59 win over Finlandia (0-12) in a non-conference matchup. The game featured a total of 61 three point attempts by the two teams.
Tori Holt led all scorers with 18 points on 8-9 shooting. Morris dominated the paint outscoring the Lions 36-16 in the game.
Finlandia started the game with a three but Morris scored the next 15 points to take a commanding early lead. The Lions would finish the game with five more made three point field goals than two point field goals.
In the second quarter Morris used a 17-5 run to push their lead to 18 at 38-20. The two teams traded three's at the end of the half and UMM went to the locker room up 15.
The third quarter was the closest quarter with both teams scoring 15 points apiece but Morris still led by 15 after 30 minutes of play. In the fourth quarter Morris put the game out of reach with a 10-2 run, extending their lead to 23 with 7:11 left.
Elli Stevenson finished the night with 16 points and four assists.
Kendra Raths had 11 rebounds to lead the team.
Allie McLaughlin had ten rebounds off the bench.
Cori Becker had six points and tied a career high with six assists.
Northland comes to the P.E. Center tomorrow and Morris will try to use the momentum from tonight's win to help snap a three game UMAC losing streak.
