MAYVILLE, N.D. - The Minnesota Morris women's basketball team's comeback from an early double-digit deficit comes up short in the team's first road contest of the season Thursday night at Mayville State, 66-53.
It was an uphill climb for the Cougars from the start as they trailed 18-5 after the first quarter.
Kendra Raths, who led Minnesota Morris with 17 points, scored nine straight for the Cougars to pull within 23-16 midway through the second quarter. The Comets though would push the lead back to double-digits by halftime, 29-18.
The Cougars would trail by 16 in the third before going on an 11-2 spurt to close out the quarter to pull them within seven at 45-38 going into the fourth.

Jordan Halvorson and
Courtney Dague cut the deficit to four at 46-42 early in the final stanza. Mayville State would follow with a 13-2 run to bring their lead back over 10 and would go on for the 13-point victory.
Raths added 10 rebounds to go with her 17 points.
Bailey Miller was also in double figures with 13 points.
Abby Van Kempen pulled down 10 rebounds.
Minnesota Morris (0-2) stays on the road for their next contest, Monday at Presentation.
