HANCOCK, Mich. – Tori Holt had a career high 27 points to lead Minnesota Morris (12-11) to an 83-70 victory at Finlandia University (1-22). It was her second consecutive game with at least 20 points, the first time she has done that in her career. She also had ten rebounds in the game.
Four other Cougars finished in double figures on Saturday.
Kayla Kraemer had 13 points on 4-7 shooting.
Maja Coomes hit four three point field goals on her way to 12 points.
Elli Stevenson and
Cori Becker each scored 11 points.
Minnesota Morris shot 52.6% on the night, tying their season best, a mark they set last night in a win at Northland. The Cougars connected on 12 three pointers, the most in any game this season. It was the most made three's in a game for a UMM team since the Cougars played Crown on Jan. 10 of last season.
The Cougars had an eight point lead after the first quarter of play. They held the Lions to just two made field goals in the first eight minutes of play. The lead reached double digits early in the second quarter but Finlandia would cut it down to four with 5:31 left in the half. Morris was able to weather the storm and would find a way to push the lead to nine at the break.
Morris tried to put the game away in the third quarter, extending the lead to 19 on a pair of free throws by
Mauren Thiesen. The Lions cut the lead to 14 at the quarter break and would continue to make a run at the Cougars in the fourth quarter. Finlandia began the final quarter on a 16-5 run, pulling them to within three with 5:24 left.
It would be as close as the Lions could get as Morris put together a 17-7 run to end the game. Minnesota Morris finished the game with 30 points in the paint. The Cougars bench outscored the Lions bench 21-10.
Headed into the final weekend of the regular season the Cougars sit in fourth place, two games back of Bethany Lutheran and game up on Martin Luther and St. Scholastica.
