DULUTH, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (13-14) saw their season come to an end on Wednesday falling 81-66 to St. Scholastica (19-7) in the UMAC semifinals. Morris shot 44.3% from the field and was 8-16 from the three but could not overcome the Saints 52-32 advantage in points in the paint.
CD Douglas had 21 points and seven assists in the contest to lead the Cougars.
Anthony Fisher came off the bench to score ten points.
Tyler Ukkelberg finished with 11 points, five rebounds and three blocks.
St. Scholastica was able to hold UMM scoreless for nearly four minutes in the first half as they built up an 18-9 lead. Morris was only able to get the deficit down to six points before CSS responded and took an 18 point lead at the end of the half.
The deficit would remain in double digits until
Jeremy Halverson hit a three with 11:30 left, pulling Morris within nine. The Cougars would not let the Saints score for a stretch of four and half minutes as they cut the deficit all the way down to four with 7:21 remaining. The 8-0 run was bookended by another three from Halverson.
Unfortunately it would be as close as the Cougars could get and an 8-0 run by the Saints late in the game put an end to the battle. Scholastica would push the lead to as much as 17 before the final whistle.
Paul Grove ends the season with 181 career wins, meaning the first victory he gets next season will tie him with Perry Ford for the all-time wins leader at Minnesota Morris.
