Cougars Take on Saints in UMAC Semi

MORRIS, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (13-13) will head to Duluth this evening for a UMAC Semifinal showdown against St. Scholastica (18-7) at 7:30 p.m. The Cougars and Saints split their season series with the home team winning both games.

St. Scholastica is a perfect 11-0 this season at home and has won 14 straight home games dating back to last season. The good news for the Cougars is that they were last team to beat the Saints in Duluth. Morris leads the all-time series 24-14. The two teams have not met in the postseason since the 2010 UMAC Championship.

Minnesota Morris shot 48.2% from the field on Monday night, including 55.6% in the second half. On the season the Cougars rank sixth in the nation in field goal percentage, averaging 50% from the field this season.

CD Douglas had a school record 37 points last time out including 17 made free throws. He is averaging 21.4 points per game which ranks 34th in NCAA Division III. He is 44th in field goal percentage (57.3), 22nd in total points (556), 29th in made free throws (136), 18th in field goals made (207) and 23rd in total assists (132). His 556 points are the most in single season based on records dating back to 1998.

St. Scholastica is one win shy of setting a program record for most wins in single season. They are led by a trio of players who average at least 11.9 points per game this year. Jake Naslund (12.1), Brandon Newmann (11.9) and Andrew Laughlin (11.9) lead the team in scoring. The Saints are 17-3 when three players score in double figures during a single game. Scholastica has made 213 three point field goals this season. When the Saints make at least eight three's during a game they are 13-1 on the year.

If the Cougars can pick up the W, Morris will travel to either North Central or Northwestern on Saturday for the UMAC Championship.
