SUPERIOR, Wis. – Tyler Ukkelberg converted a three point play with under seven seconds to play giving Minnesota Morris (11-10, 7-5 UMAC) a 78-75 win over Wisconsin-Superior (11-11, 7-6 UMAC).
CD Douglas had a game high 32 points as Morris solidified themselves as the third place team in the UMAC.
Morris shot 50.8% from the field including shooting 7-15 from behind the arc. Ukkelberg finished the game with 17 points and nine rebounds. The Cougars held Superior to 35.1% shooting in the first half to build up an eight point first half lead. Superior was able to stay in the contest thanks to an 18-4 advantage in points off turnovers.
The first half was a close battle for the first 17 minutes of play. Trailing 35-33 with 3:08 left in the half Morris went on a 12-2 run, taking a 45-35 two minutes later. Superior would get a basket back and the Cougars went to the break up, 45-37.
Superior climbed back into the game in the second half to tie the game on a layup by Vid Milenkovic with 13:15 left in the game. The game would stay within five points the rest of the game as neither team could pull away. UMM's
Tyler Ukkelberg sealed the game with a fall away layup while being fouled. He converted his free throw and Superior's last second three point attempt was off.
Morris will have another long road trip next week as they take on Northland College and Finlandia University.
