MORRIS, Minn. - After dropping the opening game of a doubleheader in extra innings, Minnesota Morris bounced back nicely to top Northwestern 9-0 in the regular season home softball finale Friday afternoon at the Cougar Softball Park.
In the top of the second,
Bret Hulett got out of a bases loaded jam as she snatched a line shot and doubled off the Northwestern runner off third keeping the Eagle off the scoreboard.
The Cougar bats helped out Hulett in the bottom half of the frame.
Megan Knickerbocker started a 3-run rally with a double to deep left. After a
Kallie Wycoff bunt single,
Meghan Pomeroy drove in Knickerbocker with a single up the middle. Three batters later,
Gina Downie's single to center plated Wycoff and that was followed by an RBI infield single from
Autumn Mahoney.
Minnesota Morris added four more in the third with three of the runs coming on one swing of the bat. With two outs and the bases loaded, Downie, playing in her final home game, hit a grounder down the first base line that cleared the bases and put the senior center fielder on third with a 3-RBI triple that made the score 7-0.
The Cougars made it 9-0 in the fourth as Wycoff's 2-RBI single to left plated Knickerbocker and Hulett.
Hulett was great on the mound as she allowed only one hit to pick up her third win of the season.
Minnesota Morris (9-27, 4-10 in UMAC) closes out the season Saturday with a UMAC doubleheader at Northland.
