ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - Minnesota Morris was held to a season-low 67 points as Crown topped the Cougars, 77-67, Wednesday night in UMAC men's basketball action in St. Bonifacius.
The Cougars shot 39 percent (25-for-65) from the floor, second lowest percentage of the season, and were held to a season-low 22 percent shooting (6-for-27) from beyond the arc.
The first 13 minutes of the contest was a back-and-forth affair. A
CD Douglas jumper gave UMM a 6-2 edge. Crown countered with six straight to take a 2-point lead. A
James Sukanen lay-in regained the advantage for UMM at 14-13. Later, back-to-back baskets from
Trent Jerome put the Cougars up 18-17. Aided by a 17-6 run, Crown would take a 36-29 lead into halftime.
Jeffrey Halverson started the second half with a 3 to trim the deficit to 4 at 36-32. Minutes later, though, Crown would push their lead back to double digits following a 13-5 run. Their lead would get no closer than 8 the rest of the way.
Douglas led four Cougars in double figures with 16 points.
Jeffrey Halverson added 14. Jerome scored 12 while
Noah Grove tallied 10.
Josh Volness led Crown with 25 points and Austin VanDerHeyden scored 23.
Minnesota Morris (9-11, 7-4 in UMAC) returns home to face Bethany Lutheran Saturday at 3 p.m. at Jim Gremmels Court.
