ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - Minnesota Morris held Crown to less than 40 points for the second time this season as they gained their third straight road victory with a 53-34 win Wednesday night in UMAC women's basketball action in St. Bonifacius.

The Cougars held the Storm to just 30 percent shooting from the floor for the game and just 25 percent in the second half.

UMM built a double-digit lead late in the first quarter. A Mauren Thiesen steal and lay-in ended a Cougar 10-0 run that would give them a 20-6 lead heading into the second quarter.

Crown scored the first five points of the second frame to trim their deficit to single digits, but Abby Van Kempen's layup put the Cougars lead back over 10. They maintained that advantage the rest of the half and took a 30-17 lead into the locker room.

It was all Cougars in the third quarter as they outscored the Storm, 16-4. They took their biggest lead at 27 on the first basket of the fourth quarter on another Van Kempen lay-in that made it 48-21.

Van Kempen had a double-double effort with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Thiesen scored 11 while Raths added 10.

Minnesota Morris (8-12, 7-4 in UMAC) hosts Bethany Lutheran Saturday at 5 p.m. at Jim Gremmels Court.
