Douglas sets career scoring record in regular season finale

ASHLAND, Wis. - Senior CD Douglas was 13 points shy of becoming the all-time scoring leading in Minnesota Morris program history going into Saturday's regular season men's basketball finale at Northland. He achieved the feat on two made free throws five minutes into the second half. Douglas broke the previous mark of 1,904 career points set by Todd Hanson from 1993-97. Douglas' career total now stands at 1,915.

He will have at least one more game to add to that total as the Cougars (11-14, 9-7 in UMAC) have earned the No. 5 seed in the UMAC Tournament and will play at No. 4 Crown Monday at 7:30 p.m. Minnesota Morris lost to Northland, 81-74, Saturday afternoon.

Douglas had eight points by halftime. He added three more on a 3-point play off a driving lay-up and free throw 1:47 into the second half. Nearly three and a half minutes later, Douglas drew a foul and calmly hit two free throws to set the new scoring standard at Minnesota Morris.

The Cougars trailed Northland by 9 at halftime. Douglas' free throws cut the deficit to 2 at 43-41. Northland built their lead back up to 9 at 58-49. UMM followed with a seven-point spurt to pull within 2 again after a Noah Grove 3. That deficit would get to 1 following another Grove 3 that made it 72-71 with 3:06 remaining. The Lumberjacks closed the game on a 9-3 run to claim the 7-point victory.

Douglas finished with 23 points Saturday. Grove added 20 points.
