ASHLAND, Wis. - Minnesota Morris won their eighth straight game Saturday with an 82-54 win in the regular season finale at Northland in UMAC women's basketball action. They take an eight-game winning streak into postseason play.
Minnesota Morris (13-12, 12-4 in UMAC) is the No. 3 seed in the UMACÂ Tournament and will play at No. 2 Bethany Lutheran Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. in a semifinal contest.
The Cougars shot 53 percent from the floor Saturday, a team season-high in conference games this season. They used that hot shooting to take a 10-point lead after one quarter at 22-12. Back-to-back baskets from
Bailey Miller and
Abby Van Kempen in the final minute gave the Cougars their double-digit edge by quarter's end.
The lead got to as high as 17 in the second quarter following a
Mauren Thiesen 3 and a
Zoe Loucks jumper more than midway through the quarter. The Cougars would take a 35-21 into the halftime locker room.
UMM shot 57 percent in the second half and scored 30 points in the final stanza en route to their 28-point win.
Miller only missed one shot (8-for-9) on her way to 17 points. Thiesen scored 13 and
Kendra Raths and
Elli Stevenson each added 12.
