Cougars ride win streak into postseason

ASHLAND, Wis. - Minnesota Morris won their eighth straight game Saturday with an 82-54 win in the regular season finale at Northland in UMAC women's basketball action. They take an eight-game winning streak into postseason play.

Minnesota Morris (13-12, 12-4 in UMAC) is the No. 3 seed in the UMAC Tournament and will play at No. 2 Bethany Lutheran Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. in a semifinal contest.

The Cougars shot 53 percent from the floor Saturday, a team season-high in conference games this season. They used that hot shooting to take a 10-point lead after one quarter at 22-12. Back-to-back baskets from Bailey Miller and Abby Van Kempen in the final minute gave the Cougars their double-digit edge by quarter's end.

The lead got to as high as 17 in the second quarter following a Mauren Thiesen 3 and a Zoe Loucks jumper more than midway through the quarter. The Cougars would take a 35-21 into the halftime locker room.

UMM shot 57 percent in the second half and scored 30 points in the final stanza en route to their 28-point win.

Miller only missed one shot (8-for-9) on her way to 17 points. Thiesen scored 13 and Kendra Raths and Elli Stevenson each added 12.
