MORRIS, Minn. – The UMN Morris men's basketball team (3-7, 1-2 UMAC) defeated North Central (3-8, 1-3 UMAC) en route to its first conference win of the season Saturday afternoon at the Cougar Sports Center. Four Cougars scored in double figures on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half of action proved to be a close contest but a late Cougar run gave them a double-digit lead heading into halftime.
- With the score tied at 36-36 with 4:38 remaining in the first half, the Cougars tallied a 14-4 run to take a 50-40 lead into the break.
- Despite the 10-point deficit, the Rams flipped the script early on in the second half as they were able to tie things up at 55-55 less than six minutes in.
- Kenneth Riley then helped spark an 11-0 run as he tallied a pair of baskets and a free throw to make it 66-55 with 11:13 to play in regulation.
- The Rams were never able to get back within striking distance down the final minutes of regulation as the Cougars secured the 89-78 victory.
NOTABLES
- Riley tallied a career-best 16 points on the afternoon.
- Freshman Ian Carlin recorded a double-double on 13 points and 10 rebounds.
- The Cougars scored 52 points in the paint.
