Northland defeats UMN Morris men’s basketball, 76-71

MORRIS, Minn. – The UMN Morris men's basketball team (2-6, 0-1 UMAC) was outscored by 14 points in the second-half as the Northland LumberJacks (2-5, 1-1 UMAC) left the Cougar Sports Center with a 76-71 victory. Junior James Pendleton paced the Cougars as he tied a career-best 26-point outing.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The two teams traded baskets throughout the first half as the neither team held a double-digit lead.
  • The Cougars closed out the first half with an 18-4 run over the final 7:15 of action.
  • UMN Morris held a 38-29 lead over the LumberJacks heading into halftime.
  • Northland opened up the second half with a 7-0 run in just 50 seconds to bring the deficit to 38-26.
  • With 13:58 to go in regulation, Devyn Frye scored on a layup to give the LumberJacks their first lead of the second-half at 47-46.
  • The LumberJacks then extended their lead to 54-46 with 10:16 to play in regulation.
  • The Cougars were able to bring the deceit to a single point down the stretch but they weren't able to take the lead.

  • Pendleton was 14-for-19 from the free throw line and had three steals.
