ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The No. 5 seed Minnesota Morris men's basketball team concluded its season with a 78-71 loss to No. 4 seed Crown in the quarterfinal round of the UMAC Tournament Monday at the Wild Athletic Center. Senior Trey Heinsuis led the Cougars (10-16) with 22 points and 10 rebounds in his final appearance donning the Maroon & Gold.

"The careers of four outstanding seniors came to an end in a very hard-fought playoff game tonight," head coach Paul Grove said. "We did a lot of things well, just couldn't get our free throws to drop. Trey, Jeremy, Jeffrey and Noah did a lot for our program, are wonderful young men, and I already miss them."

Almost five minutes into the contest, Crown (17-10) took a 13-6 lead over the Cougars, but Minnesota Morris battled back to take a 17-15 lead with 12:54 to play, as Jeremy Halverson's 3-pointer capped off the 11-2 run for the Cougars.

The score remained within four points until Timothy Wendel's layup put Crown up six with 13 seconds to go in the first half to take a 39-33 lead into halftime.

During the first 20 minutes of play, Jeffrey Halverson recorded 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field.

The second half was a close contest as the score remained within single digits.

The Cougars found themselves down nine with 5:06 to play, but then went on a 6-0 run, which was capped off by a free throw from Heinsuis with 2:27 to go in regulation to make it 65-62, Crown.

Following Heinsuis' free throw, the two teams traded baskets and then Wendel put Crown up 69-64 on a pair of free throws with 1:34 to play.

Minnesota Morris cut the lead to four points on another free throw by Heinsuis with 1:22 to go at 69-65, but couldn't get any closer.

Down the stretch, Noah Grove hit a 3-pointer with 5.5 seconds left to play in regulation to give him 15 points on the night and 1,500 for his career. He is the third Cougar in program history to eclipse 1,500 career points.
