Slow Start Too Much for Men’s Basketball

Martin Luther tops Minnesota Morris, 73-54

NEW ULM, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's basketball team couldn't overcome a 19-point halftime deficit en route to a 73-54 loss at Martin Luther Wednesday night.

Minnesota Morris falls to 8-14 overall and 5-8 in conference play, while Martin Luther is now 7-15 overall and 4-10 in conference action.

For the Minnesota Morris offense, three Cougars scored at least 10 points with Jeffrey Halverson scoring a team-high 13 points. Along with Halverson, Noah Grove scored 11 points and Nick Peterson recorded 10 points.

The Knights jumped out to an 11-point lead less than six minutes into the game and didn't look back. At halftime, the Knights led the Cougars, 38-19.

With 8:45 left in regulation, Jeffrey Halverson made a pair of free throws to bring the game within 13 points at 54-41, but the Knights went on a 12-5 run to extend their lead to 20 points.

The Cougars are back home on Saturday, Feb. 9, against North Central. The game is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. Prior to the men's game, the Cougar Sports Center renaming ceremony will take place on Jim Gremmels Court.
