CLERMONT, Fla. – The University of Minnesota Morris softball team (9-9) closed out its 2019 spring break trip with two losses to a pair of WIAC opponents. The Cougars dropped a 12-0 contest to Wisconsin-River Falls (3-4) before falling 11-3 to Wisconsin-Stout (6-3).
Wisconsin-River Falls Recap (Five Innings)
River Falls built an early lead with one run in the top of the first before adding six runs in the second.
After a scoreless third, River Falls scored four runs in the fourth and then made it a 12-0 contest with a run in the fifth.
The Cougar offense recorded three hits in the shutout loss.
Wisconsin-Stout Recap (Five Innings)
Stout took a 6-0 lead over Minnesota Morris with three runs in the first and three runs in the second.
The game remained in favor of 6-0 for Stout until the top of the fifth when the Cougars scored three runs.
For Minnesota Morris in the top of the fifth, freshman Marissa Allen hit a three-run home run, which was her fourth home run of her career.
With the 6-3 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth, Stout scored five times to secure the 11-3 victory.
The Cougars are slated to host Bethany Lutheran for their home opener on Saturday, March 30. The doubleheader against the Vikings is set to begin at 1 p.m.
