MORRIS, Minn. – The Cougar men's basketball team (8-16, 4-11 UMAC) closed out its 2019-20 home slate with a 110-80 victory over Martin Luther (5-19, 2-14 UMAC) Wednesday night inside the Cougar Sports Center. Dillon Haider led the Cougars with a career-best 29-point outing as he bested Eric Dalbey's school record for 3-pointers made in a season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nick Peterson scored the first basket of the game 12 seconds in and the Cougars never looked back.
- On the next possession, Haider hit his first 3-pointer of the night to set the school record.
- The Cougars used an 8-2 run to open the game over the first 1:33 of action.
- Despite trailing by seven midway through the first half, Martin Luther was able to get back within a point but the Cougars wouldn't give up the lead.
- Down the stretch of the first half, UMN Morris used an 8-0 run to take a 55-43 lead into the break.
- The Cougars kept their distance during the second half as they held a double-digit lead.
- With 7:59 to go in regulation, Haider connected on another 3-pointer to give the Cougars a 22-point lead.
- Tath Dak capped off the scoring on the day with a jumper with 49 seconds to go in the game to make it 110-80.
NOTABLES
- Haider went 10-for-20 on the night, which included going 8-for-15 from 3-point range. Heading into Wednesday, Haider was tied with Dalbey for the school record for 3-pointers made in a season with 72 (2007-08).
- The Cougars were 17-for-33 from 3-point range on the night, which is a season-best tally.
- UMN Morris posted a season-best 110 points.
- The Cougars tied a season-best six blocked shots.
