Women’s Basketball Concludes Season

Bethany Lutheran tops Minnesota Morris, 53-43

MANKATO, Minn. – The No. 4-seeded Minnesota Morris women's basketball team (17-10) concluded its 2019-20 season with a 53-43 loss to the top-seeded Bethany Lutheran Vikings (22-3) in the semifinal round of the UMAC Tournament Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With the score tied at 4-4 with 5:56 to go in the first quarter, Bethany Lutheran was able to outscore the Cougars down the stretch to take a 19-9 lead into the second quarter.
  • During the second quarter, senior Mia Wassink scored eight of her 16 points on the night, which included a pair of 3-pointers.
  • The Cougars were able to use the second quarter to bring the game within six at 28-22 heading into halftime.
  • Coming out of the break, it was all Minnesota Morris as the Cougars used a 16-4 run to take a 38-32 lead over the Vikings with 2:58 to go in the third.
  • After three quarters of play complete, Minnesota Morris held a 40-39 lead over the home team.
  • Following a pair of free throws from Emily Skrien to open the fourth, Jay Kwateh completed the three-point play to make it 43-41, but Bethany Lutheran went on to score the final 12 points of the game en route to the 53-43 victory.
