MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's basketball team went from one extreme to the other this weekend, starting out ice cold in a loss to Bethany Lutheran College on Friday night before rebounding with a commanding 114-60 victory over Martin Luther College on Saturday that featured 58 percent shooting from the field, 54 percent shooting from beyond the arc, and 80 percent shooting from the free throw line. The win lifts UMN Morris to 7-9 (3-3 UMAC) on the season.
Despite what the final score would eventually be, the game was close in the opening few minutes of the game and Martin Luther actually grabbed a 15-13 lead with eight minutes gone before a three-point play from
Noah Kannegiesser put Minnesota Morris up for good. A 16-2 run for the Cougars midway through the half put the team in charge of the proceedings and shots continued to drop right up until halftime, with three-pointers from Kannegiesser and
Jaret Johnson making it 51-31 at the break.
The game was never in jeopardy at any point in the second half, but at a certain point things just went from bad to worse for Martin Luther. After Joseph Hirsch made a layup to make it 75-49 with less than 11 minutes to play, Minnesota Morris closed the game on 39-11 stretch. Almost everyone got in on the action as 12 Cougars scored in the game and six reached double-figures.Â
Dillon Haider was the high scorer in the game with 25 points, going 5-for-8 from three-point range. KJ Riley was next up with 16 points. The other four to reach double-figures all came off the bench as
Koleman Lind lit up the final minutes with 11 points in just six minutes on the court. Kannegiesser,
Tath Dak, and
Jarrett Kujava all added 10 apiece.Â
Minnesota Morris hosts one final non-conference game on Tuesday night, with Trinity Bible College paying a visit to Jim Gremmels Court at 7:15 p.m.Â
