BEMIDJI, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's basketball team put on an offensive clinic in a 107-67 win over Oak Hills Christian College on Saturday afternoon. The victory improves the Cougars to 2-2 on the season.
The Wolfpack led for much of the first five minutes of the game, taking a 12-8 edge on a three-pointer from Quincy Wilson. Minnesota Morris embarked on a 13-2 run over the next three minutes to go up, 21-14, a run capped by a three-pointer from
Noah Kannegiesser in his first action of the season.
Another hot spell in the middle portion of the first half featured consecutive three-pointers from Kannegiesser and
Pal Dak, a Dak layup moments later, and then a
Kenny Placide three-point play to finish it off for a 39-26 edge. An
Ian Carlin layup just before the horn gave the Cougars a 49-35 lead at the half.
A Wilson jumper brought Oak Hills Christian to within 11, 60-49, with 13:36 remaining in the second half. Out of a timeout, Minnesota Morris quickly went on a 10-0 run, with Kannegiesser scoring the first five points, then a jumper from
Tarik Iyob and a
Jarrett Kujava three-ball to make it 70-49. The Wolfpack's deficit only shrank to less than 20 on one more occasion after that and a relentless offensive day from the Cougars had them hitting the century mark with about three minutes remaining.
Five players ended in double-figures for Minnesota Morris, led by Dak's 20-point afternoon. Kannegiesser had 17, and the trio of
Jaret Johnson, Carlin, and Iyob all finished with 12.
Minnesota Morris heads to Mayville State University on Nov. 22 to face the Comets at 7:30 p.m. following the conclusion of the women's contest between the two schools.
