NEW ULM, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's basketball team halted a tough three-game losing streak on Friday night with a 67-52 road win at Martin Luther College. The Cougars improve to 9-12 (6-5 UMAC) and solidify a top-four spot in the conference standings as the regular season begins to wind down.

Following a jumper from Jadyn Sondrol to open the game, Martin Luther went on a 10-0 run and soon thereafter took its largest lead of the game at 13-4. Midway through the quarter, Minnesota Morris answered with a 9-0 run that consisted solely of bench points. A triple from Malory Anderson knotted the score at 13-13, though the Knights would come back to lead, 18-15, after one quarter of play.

Minnesota Morris took control in the second quarter, limiting Martin Luther to just six points. The Cougars opened with a 9-0 run as they didn't allow the Knights to score until only five minutes were left in the quarter. A layup from Haley Wollschlager just before the buzzer put UMN Morris out in front, 32-24, at the break.

A three-pointer from Lexus Eagle Chasing extended the Minnesota Morris lead to double-digits, 35-24, at the beginning of the third quarter. Martin Luther would trim the Cougar lead down to five just a couple minutes later, but UMN Morris soon restored order with three-pointers to begin to pull away. A Justine Day triple made it 49-36 and a three from Sondrol late in the frame made it 56-40 to start the fourth.

The closest that the Knights would get the rest of the way was 12 points. Minnesota Morris had the answer to any bucket from Martin Luther, including a three-point play from Ella Van Kempen and a steal and layup from Jay Kwateh. 

Minnesota Morris forced 20 turnovers from Martin Luther while committing just nine on the night. The Cougars also had an 8-2 advantage in blocked shots and a 15-5 edge in steals. 

Day wrapped up the night with 15 points and tied for the team high with seven rebounds. Anderson also came off the bench and had 10 points and seven boards along with four blocks. Eagle Chasing scored 14 and Sondrol added 11.

Minnesota Morris wraps up the weekend and its four-game road swing tomorrow with a 3 p.m. contest at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato.
