COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's track & field team made its second trek to Saint John's University on Saturday, competing in the SJU Invitational. The throwers had the best of it on the day, with five finishes among the top-seven of the shot put and weight throw.
Cody Nye and
Bryan Zepeda set new PRs in the shot put, with Nye winning the event with a heave of 48-3.25 (14.71 meters). Zepeda was in fourth place at 45-3 (13.79 meters) and
Justin Robinson was sixth with a distance of 43-5.75 (13.25 meters). The PR for Nye improved on his mark that ranks third all-time for the Cougars, while Zepeda moved up to eighth all-time in the shot put.
In the weight throw, Robinson was sixth with a throw of 47-9.75 (14.57 meters).
Luke Petersen was one spot behind in seventh at 47-7.75 (14.52 meters). Robinson added an eighth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 16-5.75 (5.02 meters).
For the Cougar runners, the best finishes came in the mile.
Rory Shackelford finished in third place with a time of 4:49.02.
Joel Knopp was close behind in time, but five spots separated him from his teammate as he placed eighth in 4:51.26.
Minnesota Morris has its final meet prior to the UMAC Indoor Championships next weekend, heading to Grand Forks, N.D. for the UND Open on Feb. 19.Â
