MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's basketball team closed the regular season on Saturday with a 93-44 rout of Northland College. The win for the Cougars was the 250th for
Tim Grove in his time as head coach of the program. UMN Morris improves to 11-14 (8-6 UMAC) on the year.
Behind a swarming defense, Minnesota Morris took a 22-6 lead after the first quarter and increased it to 54-13 at the half. Northland committed 19 turnovers in the first half as the Cougars started the game off with a 9-0 run, closed the first quarter and headed into the second quarter with a 14-0 burst, then had an 18-0 run in the middle of the second frame as the LumberJills could not buy a bucket. Less than two minutes were left in the first half before a Northland player other than Miranda Wagner scored.
While the LumberJills were more competitive in the second half, the Minnesota Morris lead never dipped below 37 points. A
Tariq Brownotter layup late in the third quarter made it 75-30 and the Cougar lead swelled to as many as 51 points before the final buzzer.
Lexus Eagle Chasing led all scorers with 20 points.
Malory Anderson came off the bench for a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
