COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's track & field team finished in fourth place on Friday night at the SJU Last Minute Invitational. The Cougars totaled 41 points with a number of top-eight performances in their final meet prior to the UMAC Championships.
The one event victory on the track for Minnesota Morris came from
Conrad Barrozo with a time of 17.81 seconds in the 110 Meter Hurdles to win by half-a-second. Barrozo was also part of the 4 x 100 Meter Relay team along with
Joshua Welch,
Rory Shackelford, and
Duncan Vandergon that finished in second place with a time of 47.01 seconds. Welch also took seventh individually in the 200 Meter Dash in 24.71 seconds.
The biggest result of the day for the program came in the hammer throw as
Luke Petersen established a new school record of 166-5 (50.73 meters) to win the event comfortably. He was joined by Jared Nelson in the finals of that event as Nelson finished seventh at 136-1 (41.48 meters).
Petersen also scored for the Cougars in the discus with a throw of 133-1 (40.58 meters) that ranks seventh all-time for the program and was good for fifth place in the event. Ben Paulson was sixth with a throw of 129-7 (39.51 meters) to take sixth place and he now ranks 10th all-time for the UMN Morris program.
The shot put was a busy event as per usual for Minnesota Morris. After setting a new school record last week,
Cody Nye took second on Friday with a heave of 49-5.50 (15.07 meters).
Bryan Zepeda was fifth in the shot at 45-5.00 (13.84 meters) and is now seventh in the school's record book for the event.
Landon Wagner also scored with an eighth-place finish of 44.3.50 (13.50 meters).
Conor Thornbrugh also scored for Minnesota Morris on the day, placing eighth in the javelin with a throw of 139-1 (42.40 meters).
Next weekend will see the eight UMAC teams converge on Morris for the 2022 UMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Action will get underway at 2 p.m. on Friday and at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
